The common fixture of choice from the 1960′s to around 2003 was to use 1,000-watt metal halides aimed at the ceiling to reflect the light back down to the court. Metal halides by today’s standards use a tremendous amount of energy and require a lot of maintenance. Indirect lighting Fixture layouts

(Pictured below) are several indirect tennis lighting layouts. Keep in mind that this is only a guideline, and will likely require adjustments depending on your building and ceiling structure. Another important factor to indirect lighting design is the reflectivity of the ceiling, if your facility has an exposed structure (beams and purlins), that can have a serious impact on the light levels at the floor level, in fact possible light loses of 25% plus when compared to having a reflective fabric ceiling.
